Weight loss expert

Postby Lily pomme » Wed May 17, 2017 8:48 pm

Hi there

I'm looking for an affordable weight loss expert, either dietician, doctor or endocrinologist.
I've consulted so many GPS, checked thyroid function, etc.. Tried everything, of course I decreased my food intake, I eat so healthy, and exercise a lot with no results at all. I actually put on weight since I started doing more cardio and weight training.. I'm getting worried that I might have an underlying condition and it's very frustrating.
Many thanks in advance

I think you've done the right thing consulting with professionals first. I would have hoped they could find something though!
Maybe taking time to listen to your body is what is needed.

Everyone is different. Some people need to snack. Some people thrive on extra carbs. Whatever it is, there's a "healthy" for everyone.

Sometimes overexercising and undereating actually causes the body to store fat! This happened to me in January/Feb when the weather was cold & I was exercising a lot to keep warm!

I gained a lot of weight following a change of jobs, a series of injuries and the low morale that goes with that. I lost the weight myself but keeping it off has been rife with frustrations & mistakes...and yet again low self-esteem!

I have suggested it before - maybe have a read of The Goddess Revolution by Mel Wells. She also does an "academy" which I've not tried. No connection, just a goddess

Other suggestions that are equally non-scientific & open to criticism would be acupuncture, check if you do better without certain foods (cut out one thing at a time). Make sure you aren't constipated (a big sign for me that I am eating the wrong thing at the moment).

Good luck.

I am no expert, apologies as this is what you asked for! I just don't always believe weight loss comes from searching for "weight loss" if you know what I am getting at?

Hey Margot!
I found a brilliant lady that might be able to help. She's not cheap but she knows her stuff and you'll get results. Sometimes its not as straightforward as energy in and energy out and there are other things at play like hormones and gut issues and she'll help you get to the bottom of it. PM if your interested in her details xx

Sounds like a good starting point. I am also reading The Diet Myth by Tim Spector, it is pretty life changing. Worth a read. I have become the resident bookworm :geek:

Thank you all for your advice!

I will try those books!

I agree that hormones and gut health play a huge part in energy levels, Ive read a lot about it, but my diet and digestive system are great (no digestive pb, lots of fibre etc)

Thats why Im leaning towards a hormonal issue, but having had my thyroid function checked (and its ok, not even borderline), my GP wont send me to an endocrinologist on NHS. (I cant afford 200£ for a session with a private doc!)

I tried acupuncture for energy, its difficult to say if it works..
My weight gain is more worrying than my energy levels which fluctuate (I dont qualify for Chronic fatigue either..)

I'd maybe revisit the thyroid issue too. The standard test the GP gives you to test for thyroid doesn't often tell the full story. Sometimes your bloods can show that you are totally within range, yet your 100% symptomatic. If you suspect that there may still be some thyroid issues, stopthethyroidmadness.com is a good place to start x

I agree with Bluebird27, Stop the Thyroid Madness is a good place to start understanding thyroid health, (the book or website). If you wanted a more thorough blood test, to include TSH,T4, T3, Reverse T3 and thyroid antibodies, you could try https://www.medichecks.com/thyroid-health . They have 15% off with THYROID25 until tomorrow. Gut health, adrenal issues and/or certain food intolerance may also be factors.
Bluebird 27, could you please pm me, or post, the details of the lady you saw.
