Private Healthcare

Postby whizzbang » Tue Sep 18, 2018 1:06 pm

I'm thinking that with all of the pressures on the NHS it might be time to consider private healthcare.
Does anyone out there have any advice re which companies are best to consider or go with? Or the sorts of packages that are best?

Very grateful for any help offered  :)

I have private health insurance with BUPA. I've used it for my kid. It seems fine. My only issue is that they will only let you use a BUPA registered doctor but they won't tell you who the BUPA registered doctors are. So I had to find the doctors, ask them if they were BUPA registered and then go through the process of getting an authorisation code from BUPA to cover the bill. It annoyed me that they couldn't help with a list of BUPA registered doctors who I could then choose from. I was told that this was because the cover was for a kid so not sure if it applies to adults too.

I know someone who has Vitality Health Insurance. I'm not sure how it works when you need to claim, but she seemed very happy with the perks such as discounted gym subscription and rewards for living a healthy life such as free cinema tickets and coffee, etc.

Highly recommend CIGNA.  You may choose any health professional you wish to see at any hospital/health care provider, allowing you to, if you wish, to see specialists/physios etc you may have been seeing before or alternatively doing the research and selecting the the person you would like to see and then advising CIGNA.  Our policy has a £100 excess on any new condition - the only downside but different policies may offer different excesses.

Clare is a financial planner and private healthcare is one of the areas we spoke to her about.
She works with a number of the main companies, eg. Bupa, vitality, AXA PPP as well as others. We had quite a detailed chat about what mattered to us. It hasnt cost more than doing it for ourselves. although haven't had treatment yet, our plan includes some payments towards regular things like dental and optical for our choice of practitioner.
Clare is a lovely person and local. Recommend getting in touch.
