Archer Street - Does a Soho Rule Book work on Family Friendly Northcote Road

Postby minxymoomoo » Tue Apr 23, 2019 1:52 pm

How exciting a new bar opening Northcote Road, why not pop in this week for a glass of rose with a couple of girlfriends celebrating surviving the Easter holidays and schools being back.

Apparently its not that easy to pop in.  We were asked for names for the list and a £50 deposit. When we laughed and said no our enquiry was cancelled and it noted 'we do allow walk-ins but entrance to the venue is down to the discretion of the door on the night'.

On sharing this experience with other friends they commented that there were not permitted entrance the other evening, discretion at the door, despite the bar only being half full.  They too are local parents looking to try out a new bar and wanting to keep Northcote Road interesting.

Not usually one to comment but it does seem a bit off, why open on Northcote Road and make the locals feel unwelcome.

Have to say all seems a bit odd to me, especially if as you say it was only half full.

Did you see the menu? The cocktails (only thing on it) are nearly £15 each! Apparently for that you get entertainment from professional West End singers so it doesn’t sound like the kind of place you just pop into for a swift half. They should probably make it a bit clearer though.

"entertainment from professional West End singers" won't last long if they can only fill 20% of the tables!

I can see that they want to avoid roving drinkers wandering in from the many pubs at the top of Northcote Road (but at £15 a cocktail they will probably wander out again)  and avoid stag nights and hen parties but works in Soho may be a disaster for SW11...

They could take a leaf out of Basil Fawlty's book and simple put a sign in the window...
