GP practice in Clapham South

Postby RandolphL1985 » Fri Dec 27, 2019 8:58 am

We have recently moved into the Clapham South/Balham area. Could anyone recommend a good GP practice?
I am also 20weeks pregnant so I will need to register with a local hospital- C&W or St George’s? Advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

We have been happy with Clapham Park Group Practice, although we have been lucky enough not to need them for 2-3 years now  😅
When I was pregnant they recommended St Thomas' as they did shared care with the practice and I had most of my visits (slightly complex situation that required closer monitoring) at the surgery, at the midwives' centre that used to be at the back of the same building or at Clapham Manor Centre.
We were very happy with St Thomas' (8 years ago!): they took all the time needed to explain things, and despite being swept off their feet the staff were kind, helpful and never brushed off any concerns.
I don't think you can get it wrong with any of the teaching hospitals near here, so I would take into account the logistics of appointments (when and where) and check how that would fit with your day logistics - commute into work, care of other children, etc.
Good luck for a smooth pregnancy!

Thurleigh road is good and near Clapham South/Balham. Can’t go wrong with Thomas’s , St. George’s or Chelsea and Westminster. I would also recommend the sunflower team
(if u are in the right postcode and fit their medical criteria). They are the community midwives at Chelsea and Westminster and are all amazing. Good luck with your pregnancy! Pm me if you want to know more !

Welcome!

I’m more towards the Battersea end, and I’m with Lavender Hill GP, they have been exceptional since I had my daughter.

I also highly recommend C&W, the antenatal care was incredible. I had a very spontaneous and early labour and it felt like chaos when I didn’t get to stick to my birth plan, and had to be taken in by paramedics, but they spared so many people to ensure that me and my daughter were okay, midwives are beyond wonderful, and despite me being a bit in shock delirious they made every effort to keep me in the loop about what was happening. The after care is also lovely, there are many options in getting private rooms to enjoy your little family if you happen to have to stay in like I did, the birth centre is beautiful (although I was unable to give birth there due to how early my daughter was).

All the best!

For GP practices, I really recommend Hetherington Group Practice (a few minutes by car or bus, just down Clapham Park Road).  The midwives and nurses were exceptional with my two pregnancies, and the practice is incredibly good about GP appointments etc.  I’ve never had to wait for an appointment. Good luck!
