Solar panels for residential home - anyone with experience?

Postby juliantenniscoach » Sat Feb 29, 2020 10:49 am

Hi there,

I live off Northcote Road in one of the traditional houses.  I'm interested in installing solar panels for various reasons including reducing our domestic bills and our carbon footprint.  Does anyone have any experience of doing that, recommendations, pitfalls to avoid etc?

Thanks very much,

Julian

I hope you don't mind me hopping on this thread. But I am planning an extension and exploring solar panels. @schoolsearching may I ask you a few questions as well?

I haven't taken the leap into solar panels just yet, but I'm seriously considering it – seems like a smart move all around. I'm in the same boat, looking for recommendations and advice. If anyone has some insights to share, I'm all ears.

We’ve had 10 350 watt panels on a terraced house installed about 2 years by Treadlighter in Merton Road. We didn’t put in a battery. In July we generated 303kWh, exported 201kWH and paid for 60kWh. It varies a lot through the year but as long as you are willing to change your habits a bit (eg we would never now run a dishwasher overnight) then it makes loads of sense. And the feeling of virtue is overwhelming …. !

Even though my response is a bit belated, I've got some solar panel experience to share! We had them installed last year and it's been a game-changer. Bills are friendlier, and it's awesome for the planet. Biggest tip: find a reputable installer, check reviews, and ask about warranties. When we decided to go solar, we teamed up with the pros at www.acebattery.com. Their solar storage solutions for homes are next-level efficient. I'm seriously stoked about the quality, energy efficiency, and overall performance of their technology. And a great bonus – minimal carbon footprint!

One thing I'd suggest looking into is a home battery backup. It's like the cherry on top of your solar setup. These bad boys store excess energy, so you're covered on cloudy days or during a power outage. It's a lifesaver!I found this site at http://ecozonepower.com/, and they've got some real-deal info about solar panels and home batteries. Check it out; it might give you a clearer picture of what you're diving into. Now, when you're in the market for solar, don't rush it. Take your time to research local installers. Get a couple of quotes to compare prices and services. It's all about finding the right fit for your home.
