Nursery fee during lockdown closure

Postby Rilakoko » Tue Jul 28, 2020 8:53 am

Hi! I would like to know if it was common for nurseries to charge full fee during Lockdown nursery closure? I’m about to accept a place at a nursery and worried about closure this winter should there be a second wave. Thanks!

I think it varies a bit among nurseries, in particular whether they were able to claim on their insurance. I have friends who were charged 0, our nursery charged 50% as standard during lockdown but I think dropped that to 20% for people who were experiencing financial difficulties.....

Northcote House didn’t charge anything while it was closed (Apr & May), nor for June if you weren’t happy to send your kid. For July and August it’s been 50% if the kids haven’t been in. I think this is very fair and I’ve been able to make the call about our position for each month mid the previous month which has been ideal given my uncertain work situation. My kids are going back in Sept. friends have been really impressed with the new systems in place.
