Menopause Woes - Please help

Postby bunny20 » Mon Sep 07, 2020 10:59 am

Hello

I am currently experiencing menopausal symptoms for quite  long time now. Too long..... I have been taken off HRT as it was causing terrible headaches and and am now on alternative progesterone and oestrogen supplements which I take orally. I am really struggling with my moods and frequently feel very low in myself and feel as if I am stuck in a rut. To top things off, I am struggling with my weight too  and despite following an Intermittent Fasting plan I am not losing any weight.  I have reached out to a few medical professionsals (eg one on Harley Street) but I don't feel like anyone is really listening and understanding how this is making me feel. Nothing I have tried so far has really helped me. I just feel a bit lost with it all and am so tired of feeling low, feeling unhappy with my body and how I look and am desperate to get some of the 'old me' back.

Is there anyone out there who knows how I am feeling and can offer me some advice. I feel like the solution is out there somewhere but it's evaded me so far. I need to feel better, lose weight, manage my menopausal symptoms and get my energy levels back.  I would love to hear some advice or recommendations of where I should be looking or who I need to get in touch with.

I've found that eating earlier, not drinking caffeine and cutting down hugely on alcohol have all helped me feel much better.
In addition, exercise has been a big help. Even just getting out and walking each day is a help. It really isn't a fun time.
Good luck !

Thank you for your reply Blush. I have been doing most of what you mention above, I am very active and love to eat healthy foods but I still feel so down most of the time and I just want some 'bounce' back in my life again. I would love to hear about retreats anyone has done that have really benefitted their health and wellbeing or if there was any Menopause specialists I should consider going to see.

I haven't experienced this yet, but I have attended a workshop about the menopause run by Baz Moffat (http://www.bazmoffat.com/) and Vivian Lord (http://drvivianlord.com/), and I really recommend getting in touch with either or both of them! Baz is a personal trainer who specialises in women's fitness, and is very encouraging and inspiring. Vivian is a naturopathic doctor and is brilliant at helping with everything to do with nutrition. I have used both of them (albeit not for menopause) and know that they will listen and help you find what works for you.

Totally agree, giving up caffeine and alcohol helped my sister immensely.

I feel your pain!
My low moods have been so awful.
Did you find anything to help you? I’d be interested to know if you did.
I exercise, no alcohol, eat healthily but still I can’t shift this and it’s so tiring.
Hope you are ok

My lovely friend Linda Stephens runs yoga retreats and classes (groups and also one to one) specifically aimed at women during peri / post menopause. She is the kindest person and super knowledgeable, I bet she would be helpful to you - she is called yogamums

Hi, my yoga teacher speaks very highly of Gabriella Espinoza, a nutritionist who specialises in menopausal issues. +44 7796 616413

I am also tempted to start the BODY FX (figure 8) craze that keeps on popping up as an ad on social media; it’s a workout routine created by a former ballroom/salsa champion which looks like great fun and has glowing testimonials. I think they have a 30day free trial promotion at the moment. 💃

Good luck!

There is now a special accrediattion for doctors and nurses giving menopuase advice.
You can search for a local person by contacting the British Menopause society, theis site has a lot of user advice.
On the NHS there are specialists in all of the loacl teaching hospital Tommies, Guys, Chelesea and westminster, st georges.
The problem post covid is that waiting times have increased via gynae services.
I suggest starting with BMS to find an accredired specialist. Private medical care is a situation where you would get continuity of care and a quicker service. Virtual consultations are possible  both in the NHS and privately.
There are also GP with the menopause accrediation. Recognition of specialist menopause services is increasing with a bit of homework you will be able to find the support you need.

I highly recommend Claire Zarb, if you would consider homeopathy.  Although she's now based in Somerset, she does Skype consultations and then posts the remedies to you.  She has helped with hormonal imbalances I have had in the past and might be worth a try?

Hi,

I listen to a lot of podcasts related to Heath and fitness, I have come across two names Shahzadi Harper and Louise Newton , both renown for specialising in women’s health and menopause. You can google them, I believe they have private practices

Hope you feel better soon !

Hello,
have you considered trying the ayurvedic approach. Holistic methods target more symptoms than conventional medicine, plus it is all down to nature.
Another idea which arises is starflower Oil. It may be worth getting an opinion about it, apparently it is very helpful with balancing hormones during menopause.
