Food banks - how to make a cash donation

Postby Balhamberry » Tue Oct 27, 2020 10:12 pm

I’d been wondering whether it was possible to make cash contributions to food banks when this blog post by print journalist Esther Coren fell into my inbox: https://onthespike.com/2020/10/27/bankuet/

https://www.bankuet.co.uk/ is a platform the lets you make a one off or regular donation, and route it to a specific food bank (Wandsworth is one of those listed).

If you are like me in having lots of good intentions but regularly fail to remember until you walk past the donation point at the exit of the supermarket - or indeed if you grocery shop online -I think this donation platform is a great idea.

A friend who volunteers at one of the local foodbanks mentioned Bankuet - we have been using it for cash donations.

I think cash donations are better than food donations because it means the food bank can better plan what to buy and when: less problems with storage, no risk of ending up with too much rice but not enough cereals, and also this way they can buy some perishable items which you couldn't donate precisely because they are perishable.

This video was made in the US but I think the concept applies anywhere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbYInILDj6Q
