Advice please about setting up a website and finding a designer for artwork

Postby lucynaturalfaceliftlondon » Wed Nov 11, 2020 7:46 pm

Hello,

I have found lots of useful information here on Nappy Valley so thought I would put in a request myself.

I have recently qualified as a natural face lift therapist and am looking for advice as I need to set up a website and find someone who can design a business card and create artwork for headed paper, compliment slips etc.

I have been looking at the DIY website companies and wonder if anyone has had experiences, good and bad with either Wix, Squarespace or GoDaddy.

If you or someone you know would like to exchange some of their time for a course of facials and a reduced fee to help me, I would be more than happy to do that as I am on a fairly tight financial budget.

Thank you
Lucy

I have a Wix website which I paid someone to set up (you can go to the Wix marketplace and say what you’re looking for and designers will contact you.) Once it was set up it seems quite straightforward to use but when I first went onto the website couldn’t make head or tail of what to do. I set up my previous website using Wordpress so I’m not completely computer illiterate. I’ve heard Squarespace is easier but Wix has more functionality. In terms of logos etc, Wix has a logo generator but you could probably get your designer (if you go down that route) to do it.

Hi

I own a Freelance Office business and I designed my own website using wix, very easy and great help desk.  Also business cards can easily be designed by moo.com.

Let me know if you need any advices.

Best wishes

Hi Lucy, I put the same post up a year ago and now have a fabulous list of local designers, web people, IT people and everything else you might need. I used Brigitte Halliday at Indelible Creative (based in Balham) for my branding and design, which people still enthuse about. Paul Smart (also local) built my website. They are absolutely awesome and I still get compliments. I could go on an on listing all the people who helped me, so PM me if you need others.

Congratulations on your recent qualification!

I myself registered with Squarespace and had a play around with their site builder for a few days before subscribing then building my own site (I'd not done it before). For business cards I used Putney Printing on Lower Richmond Road, who were pleasant to deal with and had my cards printed in about 10 days.

Citylit does some great courses and has a range of Wordpress ones which might help. Next week they are running a ‘build a Wordpress website in a day’ course for £99. I recently did a digital marketing course at Citylit to brush up on social media advertising. The tutor recommended Wordpress as some course participants were looking to set up a website and asked the same question as you. Whilst it is free he highlighted that are lots of very good and inexpensive Wordpress designed templates which you can buy independently to customise your website so you don’t necessarily need a subscription service.

I’d definitely recommend Citylit - my experience of the tutors has been really good although haven’t done a Wordpress course there. You’d need to spend time learning a package regardless so could be a good use of your time too. Spend the rest of your budget getting your logo designed. It shouldn’t cost too much more to get the designer to knock up your business cards at the same time - and looks like you’ve got a good recommendation. Good luck!
