Dont want to invite unvaccinated friends to a party

Postby ilovecurry » Fri Jul 23, 2021 1:49 pm

Would love some input here if anyone could give a view. My wife and I are motivated to throw a summer party to celebrate my 40th which happened mid lockdown however we seem to be stuck at the first hurdle, the guest list. My wife's friendship group are quite free spirited and I know that several of them haven't had the vaccine. My wife herself did contemplate abstaining but thankfully (to my mind) stepped forward.
I don't want to throw a covid party and would prefer not to invite those who aren't vaccinated. We have had to isolate a couple of times over the last lockdown period and I don't want to do it again if it can be avoided.
She says that I am being ridiculous.
I think it should be perfectly reasonable to choose not to invite those who have decided against having the vaccine. There aren't hundreds of these friends, probably only 3 so I don't think it is such a big deal at all. Please help me get her to see sense?

I agree with your wife.
What she says makes perfect sense.
Being vaccinated doesn’t stop you catching it.

I agree with you (whilst agreeing with AbbMum23 that no vaccine will be 100% effective at stopping you catching and transmitting COVID-19 - why would you want to increase your chances of picking it up?)

Could you host something outside to try to reduce risk of infection etc? Probably not a bad idea even if everyone were vaccinated.

Oh dear...difficult one.
If one of your friends hadn't been offered the vaccine yet or perhaps could not take it for medical reasons would you still invite him/her? Not judging your view but may help to assess if you are just worried about risk (in which case this friend would not make the cut) or if there are other factors at play.

The un-jabbed are the control group in this experiment. You and your pals are the experiment, and the Yellow Card NHS adverse reactions record doesn't make good reading. So please stay healthy. VIT C, D, Zinc and a zinc ionophore.

Why don’t you invite all but make participation allowed only if all produce a negative covid test on the day of the event? This is what we did at the weekend and gave everyone confidence.

If it’s the isolation you’re worried about rather than the risk of catching Covid, why don’t you wait until after August 16th when you won’t have to isolate any more if you’re double vaccinated and come into contact with someone who goes on to test positive.

Oh and yes - your wife’s unvaccinated friends are all idiots.

Oh dear - as expected it’s becoming a political question spreading vaccine myths! Where’s the forum moderator?

I agree with the above - they are idiots not to be vaccinated.

It’s awkward for you but it’s your birthday and your party. I wouldn’t invite unvaccinated friends to my birthday either.

This kind of question has to be addressed out of love rather than judgement though - as anti vaxxers are very judgmental themselves and then the stupid arguments start coming out!

I think the best comment is that above - it’s your birthday and you want to celebrate safely and that’s the end of it! Hope you have a lovely 40th party!

Don't listen to this dangerous nonsense. Before vaccines we had Polio, diphtheria, measles, Mumps, rubella, small pox and a host of other potentially life threatening diseases. Thanks to vaccines we no longer have to deal with them (not thanks to vitamins).

Yes there are tiny tiny risks with vaccines as with any medicine, including asprin and paracetamol. But the risk of covid, (not just death but complications know as Long Covid) are a magnitude larger.

Getting vaccinated helps you but it also protects those around you, including those at higher risk beacuse of their age or health. Getting vaccinated is the socially responsible thing to so and spreading lies about the vaccine is simply a wicked thing to do. Shame on anyone who does it.

This is a difficult one & unfortunately nobody really knows the right or wrong answer. If you want to risk losing these friends don’t invite them.
Personally if you were that worried about catching covid you wouldn’t be having a party in the first place. Sky news stated last week that 60% of covid patients in hospital are double vaxxed. I know a few people personally that have covid atm that are all double jabbed so I guess the option could be to test everyone before they come to your party ??
My nanny isn’t having the vax because her & her partner are trying for a baby. She takes test a few times a week for us. She has never had covid & she quite happy to do the test. I’d never judge her on her own personally choices. It’s her body not mine.

Each to their own but to reduce risk why don’t you ask those who aren’t jabbed to take a lateral flow test the day of the party. It’s a reasonable request and that way you’re not singling anyone out.

It’s your party and you are being sensible. We have a civic duty to be vaccinated - it’s not just about us, it’s about everyone else and others that may be at risk.
They won’t be able to go on holiday unless double vaxxed or produce negative pcr as it’s a risk to others. The same should apply to parties - and it will do too to night clubs.
If your wife is still v upset then maybe a lateral flow test in the morning for them is the compromise….but they are selfish people.

I don’t think calling people selfish or idiots is the way to go. Some people can not be jabbed for medical reasons. My friends father had first jab and now has vertigo & constant headaches & shooting pains in his head. He is a scaffolder so that’s really unhelpful for his line of work. He point blank isn’t having his second jab and I don’t blame him at all. He’s now awaiting a brain scan because of the first jab.
Vaccines unfortunately don’t work for everyone & some people will have reactions so it should Be a personal choice.
Also if we all trusted our vaccines so much why would we be worried about people without it. I had both of mine early on and if I catch covid now then it’s just bad luck but I won’t be blaming anybody. I had this vaccine in the hope it protects me.
