Teaching a three year old about strangers and staying safe

Postby wendyb » Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:55 pm

Can anyone recommend any storybooks about 'stranger danger' that would suitable for a three year old? There are a number of books for sales on sites like Amazon but it's difficult to tell what they're like. My son is very friendly with absolutely everyone and I just want to start talking to him about staying safe without frightening him. I know that 'stranger danger' isn't always a term that's used as it implies that it's only strangers who can pose a risk; I do want him to learn about staying safe whoever he's with but figured that 'strangers' was the easiest place to start.

I can recommend a very good website to teach our little ones about the underware rule http://www.underwearrule.org/ it teaches them about what is and it is not acceptable behaviour from others. You can also print the book and read it as bedtime reading I think it is brilliant !
