Ukrainian 6 yo to start at Ravenstone

Postby Sutherland1 » Sat Apr 02, 2022 4:56 pm

Hello,
we are having a ukranian mother and son move in with us next weekend and he has been offered a place at Ravenstone. Just having a look at the uniform website and it's not cheap - when our kids attended it was very optional but now looks pretty strict. Is there a secondhand sale at the school or does anyone have any decent second hand uniform that they could pass on? Also great if someone could tell me if he needs both kinds of hats etc and how many of each item is appropriate ie 3 sweatshirts and two pairs of trousers/shorts? We will obviously get him some new uniform but good to get some advice and I don't want him to feel different by having trousers if all the boys are in shorts etc. Also PE kit and swimming kit? Any other pearls of wisdom I could pass on to his mum?
Thanks in advance!

I have a son at Ravenstone - I have some secondhand stuff and the school will help out with this. I'll send you a direct message.

Hi there, I have a son at Ravenstone and the only parts of the uniform you have to buy from the supplier are the logo sweatshirt and PE top. Polo shirts and trousers/shorts can be bought from anywhere as long as they’re the right colours, and you can have any kind of swimsuit, school bag, and coat (ie any colour, pattern etc). Not sure what you mean about ‘both kind of hats’ - there are no hats! Apart from a swimming hat.

I hope everything goes well with their arrival. All being well, there should be another Ukrainian mother and son joining Ravenstone before too long, so that may help them to settle in 😊

I forgot to add, re numbers of items: my son has 3 sweatshirts, trousers you can buy at Asda, M&S etc in packs so I would say 3 or 4 pairs would do. Polo shirts come in packs of 4 or 5 which is probably fine depending on how much washing you want to do! Kids wear a mix of trousers and shorts in the warmer months; I don’t think anyone notices or cares who wears which - as long as you have the main items in the right colours then there’s nothing else to worry about. Until 4 years ago Ravenstone didn’t even have a uniform, and I think that relaxed attitude about what kids are wearing has carried through to some extent.

Hello,

Please drop the school an email with the situation details and ask to be forwarded to FoR. I’ve got children at the school and also work on the PTA called Friends of Ravenstone and will be more than happy to help with the uniforms. We have a huge stock of second hand clothing.
