It’s hard to say because generally you’ll only find out if you’ve got good gap year insurance if you need to claim on it! There are companies out there that do specialist gap year insurance (World Nomads, Big Cat etc) and you probably want to go with one of these. Do your due diligence and check any reviews you can find. Also make sure your child is covered for any risky activities they may take part in such as bungee jumping. Don’t make the mistake of thinking they are covered by your family travel insurance (you obviously aren’t thinking this but some people reading this may be - that will generally only cover shorter trips and even then maybe not gap year travel as it’s often only when they’re in school or Uni.) The insurance isn’t cheap but then having your child medevacked home after a quad bike accident isn’t cheap either! Having said that prices do seem to vary quite a lot so shop around.
