I want to recommend medicine for a child with a tummy bug!

Postby catboo1 » Wed Jun 05, 2013 12:09 pm

Hi there,

I wanted to share about the medicine I used to cure my child of his tummy bug. My 2 year old got a temperature, coupled with terrible diarrhoea at the weekend. The chemists all just seem to suggest the same - Dioralight (which my children refuse to take as they hate the taste!), but nothing else seemed to be available.

So, my local chemist down the road suggested Kaolin mixture for children, which completely cleared his stomach up within a day. Boots don't seem to know what this is - they sell it for adults - but said they had never heard of the childrens one! Asking around my son's school, no one had heard of Kaolin, it only costs about a pound and is the best thing I have come across for a badly runny tummy.

Basically, I wanted to tell other mums about it as I wish I'd known about this when my older two were little! :)

I was always given kaolin for a dodgy tummy when I was little - only occurred to me recently to try it on my kids and you are right - it works!....a pre/pro biotic from Dandelion also seemed to help when one of mine had a more persistent bout. Oh the joys!!

This sounds great - If Boots don't sell it, where is best to try and get it?

My son also hates the taste of dioralyte - what does Kaolin taste like? Is is a liquid medicine?

Thanks so much for the recommendation

It seems that the smaller chemists sell it and if they don't have it in stock, they will order it for you..
The taste is nice according to my children! It's a milky type of consistency and colour.

Hope this helps! X

Ahh this has brought back so many memories. I can still remember the taste. It is disgusting when you haven't got a bug but amazing when your stomach is dodgy. I'm going to go and get some. Thanks!

Don't forget to specify its Kaolin for children as BootS got confused with the adult version!
Best of luck!
