pet rabbit

We're thinking of getting our 10 year old daughter a rabbit as a pet. Does anyone have any advice about the pros and cons of having rabbits in our SW terrace houses? And top tips on where to buy them would be gratefully appreciated!

there are rabbit rescue centres for rehoming bunnies! http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/centres.asp

they do make good pets and some people even keep them as indoor rabbits but they certainly enjoy being able to stretch their legs so a decent sized run is important as well as a hutch in the garden.

Its important to get them used to being handled as the back legs are strong and can give a good kick and scratch if they are not securely held.

important to have yearly vaccinations for Myxymatosis & VHD so vet bills a consideration.

It may be worth considering a guinea pig as a less expensive pet (no vaccines required) and often easier to handle for a child.

hope that helps

We have an indoor pet rabbit which we got for our daughter for her birthday. He is a great pet, super friendly and lovely to have around. We limit his access in the house with baby gates and he is fully litter trained (took about a week). We got him from a breeder in Cheshunt, but if you look on Pets4Homes and Preloved you will find lots of breeders. Make sure you do your research on the type of bunny you want. Small bunnies are cute, but could end up 'nervous & nippy' due to their small size. We went for an extra large bunny (a continental giant) as we wanted him to feel safe around our two dogs and cat and of course not to be nervous with the girls. It is true, you do need to handle them lots to keep them used to you. We dont have a hutch or a run as we let bunny live in the house, easier and lots less cleaning. He is around us all day long as I work from home, so he is very well socialised and even snuggles up with the dogs for a nap! :D

I also have my domestic rabbit which I really love, because he is so fluffy and cute. I like to pamper him, so I always buy the highest quality things, for example, I recently bought him a mini-house and now he has somewhere to sleep. Also, recently after all, it’s bought the best food from which he’s just crazy and I’m sure that if he could talk, he would ask me to buy only it, if you are interested, then here it is: Blue Buffalo Basics Limited Ingredient Formula Salmon & Potato Recipe Adult Dry Dog Food This is a truly great discovery and I can confidently advise it to everyone and everyone.
