I can highly recommend the puppy parties @ streatham hill vets. They run on a Tuesday evening or Sandra the trainer runs them from her home on a Saturday morning in balham. Her website is perfectdog.co.uk

Hello,

I'm a dog owner living in Clapham Junction. As someone who has made many pitfalls regarding finding the best puppy / dog training - I can share my experience and 500% recommend the wonderful Winkie Spiers - as also recommended by 'Young at Heart'

Tel: 077188 332 914
Landline - As listed in 'Young at Heart's Post'
website: www.winkiespiers.com
Email: winkie@winkiespiers.com

1. Winkie holds her puppy socialization classes at a veterinary practice called 'All Creatures' on Lavender Hill on Tuesday evenings.

2. Winkie is one of the most highly qualified puppy trainers / behaviourists and is very well known in the UK and Europe.

3. Winkie deliberately keeps the size of puppy socialization classes small - so that everyone gets individual attention.

4. The problem with 'puppy parties' is that while they sound fun - they are rather chaotic and one ends up leaving having learnt/achieved very little!

Puppies are like young children and having a large number of puppies in a session - & calling it a 'party' - may sound fun - but I know from my own and others' experience - it achieves very little in the way of learning and progress!

5. To be very honest - the only person that benefits from a puppy 'party' is the organiser - who makes lots of money by having lots of people attend the session - but as mentioned above - classes end up being disorganised and rather chaotic!

6. Winkie puts puppies before money - and deliberately keeps puppy socialization classes small. There will be a small group of other friendly puppy owners present and Winkie teaches important life skills from the outset.

7. Winkie is a walking text book of all matters canine - and discusses so many fundamental things apart from training - such as diet, exercise, veterinary treatment, vaccinations, flea solution treatments, alternative treatments etc

8. I can't thank Winkie enough for all the things that she has taught me and continues to teach me every week [we attend the adult classes on Wandsworth Common].

9. Winkie is a published author and has written an excellent book called 'How to Handle Living With Your Dog' - which addresses dealing with all the things a young puppy will have to encounter while living in busy inner London

10. Winkie's puppy classes get full very quickly - there may even be a waiting list - so please phone/email to book asap.

11. Giving your puppy the best start in life is important - and going to the right puppy school is akin to sending a young child to the best primary/prep school.

Good Luck :)

I went to Winkie Spiers and she was a nice lady but extremely expensive and we didn't really gain anything from it at all.

There are plenty of other places that are significantly cheaper.

We had a private class with winkie spears who seemed amazing at the time but actually I don't think teaches a lot. She is very liberal in her thinking and puts dogs before children, something I wasn't comfortable with. She is very expensive and my dog learned more by being in the park with others dogs.
