How much do you spend on a birthday party present ages 10-12?

I usually spend about £10-20 on a present to send my kids off with to their friends' birthday parties, depending on how good a friend they are,but I've been suggested to buy something that costs £50  . Is that the norm around here? What do others think reasonable and am I being a cheap-skate?

£10 for a classmate,£15 for a good friend. I would only spend £50 and above for my child presents.

Around £15. £20 for very closest friends.

Thanks all. It was the parent who suggested the £50 gift. Perhaps not realising how expensive it was, but just wanted to check in case I was on another planet!
