Home insurance when using your home to Airbn. Anyone any recommendations?

Postby Vamosamigos » Mon Jul 24, 2017 12:53 pm

I hope to start renting my home in London during school holidays through Airbnb. Does anyone have any experience of this & in particular of insurance companies willing to insure?

Airbnb offers comprehensive insurance to hosts (from memory it is something like $1m) for free. What exactly are you looking to insure in addition to that?

Unfortunately, Airbnb do not offer insurance – they have what is called a guarantee which in the UK is worth £600,000 but they expressly state on their website that it is not an insurance policy, and they highly recommend taking out insurance that would cover guests staying. The grey area occurs when damage may or may not have been caused by guests, thus often normal home insurance will not pay out as guests may have been involved, and nor will Airbnb as they may not. Guardhog covers that gap, so you are fully ensured either way.

Extract taken from Airbnb website: "Airbnb offers you our Host Guarantee and Host Protection Insurance, but please note this does not take the place of homeowners or renters insurance or of adequate liability coverage"

Home Insurance remains the homeowners responsibility, so please do make sure that you have the right cover in place to cover your home sharing activities.

Can also vouch for Guardhog http://guardhog.com ... really straight forward process and 'pay as you go' host insurance which is just what we need when we air bnb our place.

Hello everybody! Hopefully, my answer is still actual and can help anybody. Airbnb does provide insurance if you are searching for a place to rent for the long term. Probably it must be at least one month. But also in some cases, you can get your insurance and it can save you a lot. In summer 2018 we went to Edinburgh for the whole summer for a short art course. We were limited on budget and decided to check if we can cut some costs and we found that on money expert some insurance companies provided lower rates for our apartment. It helped us to save money.
