Don't despair, lots of things can cause hair loss and sometimes when you stop doing that thing your hair gets thicker again but sometimes not. Many things can cause temporary hair thinning, stress, medications, lack of vitamin D, too much heat (from hairdryers), dehydration etc. You don't say how old you are but hair thinning around the age of 50 or theresabouts is pretty common and just part of natural aging. It is probably much more noticeable to you than it is to others. If it is thinning because of natural reasons it can be a bit traumatic at first but give yourself a bit of time, maybe restyle your hair, it will almost definitely slow or stop thinning after a while and you will get used to its new look and feel better. x

I feel your pain. My curly hair has all fallen out or gone straight since I had my second child. It’s really demoralising and has knocked my confidence. I don’t have any solutions (all advice welcome!) but I do have a very sympathetic hairdresser who I’d recommend - Lou at HeadMasters in Balham.

Good to see a Doctor recommendation - does anyone have first hand experience of successful medical treatment for alapecia at this clinic, or others? I’m interested to know if it really works....

Sorry to hear this. You can see a trichologist who focuses on the health of your hair - such as http://www.philipkingsley.co.uk. They can diagnose (following blood tests and consultation) any possible causes other than female pattern hair loss but also explain best methods for making the most of your hair such as taking supplements for the health of your hair, using scalp drops and sprays to help boost volume etc. Let me know if you need any additional help/advice as I work with them.
Best of luck x

I think this is a very common problem and hopefully you can fix things.

After my second child my hair loss did not stop until he was 3. I was getting very worried and my hair looked very thin and would come out with a gentle touch. I could see my parting widen.
I went to see a dermatologist and she asked my family history of baldness and hair thinning. My mother had very thin hair for many years before she passed away. it was suggested it was hereditary and I should buy and apply minoxidil or regaine and advised I would have to apply it to my scalp continuously for the rest of my life. I used for 2 days and it did stole the hair falling. I am in my late 30s .
I wasn't happy with this idea at all so I decided to change my diet. I cut out gluten and took iron tablets and became religious with taking vitamin D. The results were instant. My hair stopped shedding and my hair is back to normal 2 years on.

Gluten and perhaps even dairy can prevent absorption of iron and other nutrients. I didn't take iron supplements for very long but I do now take vitamin D everyday. I have dark skin so it's even more important to supplement. Do ask your gp to refer you for a blood test to check your iron and vitamin D levels. My iron was very low and my vitamin D was lowish.
Do message me if you need help with analysing the results of your blood test.

I should also I was under a lot of stress at the time.
