guidance on over night babysitting rates please

Postby Hamlet » Wed Jun 27, 2018 9:46 pm

DH's company has a summer event in July and as its a bit of drive, we were thinking about booking into a hotel nearby for the night. I would be interested to know from parents and nannies what the going rate is for nannies to proxy parent and babysit for 2 children (both sleep 7pm - 7am)? Trying to work out if its any cheaper than asking my parents to train down to London to help out.
Thanks

Just a guess as I heard a nanny discussing this last week - normal hourly rate while she's up so say til midnight then half the rate until everyone gets up
What time would you be back the next day?

Agree.

Full time rates until midnight then half price is the pretty much standard.

Once children are awake again then back to full price (7am ish)

Thanks - Both suggestions very similar.
That’s very useful.
Goldhawk - likely to be back around 10/11 am.

We have paid our wonderful nanny normal rate until 10pm then £6 per hour (a bit more than half rate) until 7am.

Our kids have no night time waking and sleep until 7 (sometimes longer) so we all are happy with that arrangement. I’m sure if the sleeping was less consistent we could expect to pay more (or the night time rate start later).

I think where a nanny literally has no childcare to do after 10 until the morning, half rate is fair because he/she is likely to be sleeping.

I have heard of some nannies who try and charge full rate overnight but I wouldn’t pay that.
