Secondary schools

Postby Essex girl » Fri Sep 14, 2018 1:20 pm

Good afternoon MY child and I are in the process of looking around at secondary schools....honest opinions on these 3 schools would highly be appreciated please,as we are not sure which ones to put in order as we are based in Wandsworth town. So schools we have expressed an interest in are: saint Cecilia Ashcroft and Southfield academy. Can anyone pls tell me their honest opinions on these schools or experienced any of them? TIA :)

Have you been to see the schools? As you are in Wandsworth Town I think you should be able to get into Ashcroft as it is the closest to you.Saint Cecilia can be a long shot unless you attend church.I wouldn't recommend Southfield Academy as generally the behaviour of some of the kids is not the greatest. It is the closest school to us (literally 5 min. door to door ) and I didn't put it on the list as I did not want my child to end up there!

Thank you windmill26 very helpful we live 0.5 miles from Ashcroft and 0.9 miles from saint Cecelia as well as Southfield academy. We have visited all 3 schools and was surprised on how strict Ashcroft seemed!

Yep! very strict . It works for some students but nor for all.We were quite high up on the waiting list but ultimately we were happy with the school we got offered and didn't stay on the list .I didn't think would have been a right fit for my child anyway. Are you thinking of putting down other schools?

To be honest the other schools we looked at isn't right for my child such as graveny Harris Bolingbrook oh the list goes on! So no.1 saint Cecilia school n0.2 Ashcroft and possibly no.3 being southfields we have also applied for an independent school (bursary)

It would be worthwhile getting hold of a booklet called 'Choose a Wandsworth secondary school' from the town hall.  This will list all the schools' distinct admission criteria,  as well as the threshold distances for last year's successful applicants. It will also list the number of applicants for each school last year,  as well as the number of appeals,  and the appeals that succeeded. It is important to gauge whether you are likely to meet your preferred school's criteria. Too many parents spend ages agonising over the 'right' school for their child,  only to find at the last minute they they would never have stood a chance of getting in anyway. Best of luck.
