Hypnotherapy for arachnophobia - recommendations?

Postby SW12 » Tue Sep 18, 2018 9:46 pm

Hello
I'm about to head off to Australia for a month, and I'm so excited - but I'm also petrified of spiders. My phobia is so bad that I can't be in a room with even a small spider, or even a picture of a spider ! So I'm really worried about bumping into one of their famous huge or venomous ones while I'm out there.
Could anyone recommend a hypnotherapist locally that might be able to help (or failing which a good podcast or something that I could download?). Alternatively, any Aussies reading this please give me some reassurance that seeing a spider is pretty rare...??

I'm not sure if a "quick fix" is possible, but I happen to know Anna Jezuita is a skilled counsellor who specialises in treating phobias. She would definitely be worth speaking to, her number is 07515 271268, email is anna_jezuita@hotmail.com.

A friend of mine had a mega spider phobia and her hubby bought her a 1 day course to get rid of it ran at the zoo (I presume it was at the London Zoo). She said it worked like a dream and she even handled a spider at the end of it.

I've had a hypnotherapy session with Debs Davies to help me with anxiety. She's fantastic. She's based somewhere near Manchester so she did it via Skype for me and it really worked. Here is her Facebook page. It's worth contacting her and having a chat to see if you want to go ahead with it. https://www.facebook.com/debsdaviescoaching/#_=_   She is also a life coach.

Hello there

I am a Clapham South based Hypnotherapist, and have had a lot of success treating clients with phobias amongst other things.  Take a look at my website and be in touch if you think I can help.

Hi There,

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the recommended treatment for phobia's, and is very successful in it's approach. You can get intensive sessions to help you to overcome your fear. Have a look on the BABCP Find a Therapist website to make sure you get a qualified and accredited therapist.

Have fun in Australia :)

I'm fairly majorly arachnophobic and grew up in Australia. You will be fine.

In newer flats and hotels you really won't see them. You get spiders mostly indoors only in older houses that aren't well fly-screened and/or have trees/bushes/plants right next to the windows - that's how they get in.

The only place you might see them out and about is if you were to use an outdoor public toilet type place - eg changing rooms at the beach, they may be hiding in the ceiling/eaves but you don't see them much indoors. Just don't leave your shoes outside!

I think it's very likely you could spend 2/3 weeks in Aus on holiday and never see one up close :-)
