Help with tree ID needed

Postby blenkarne » Sat Nov 17, 2018 9:23 am

A bit left field this, but I am ashamed about my distinct lack of knowledge about tree names. I have tried various books and apps to up my knowledge but to no avail. Ideally I would like to be taken around one of the Commons and have various species pointed out to me - might anyone know of any knowledgeable dendrologists who might be willing to spare an hour or so to stroll around? Thank you!

I bought a very old "Observers Book Of Trees" on Ebay having had one as a child - only about £4 second hand post included.

I find it easier to start by identifying the leaf (an illustration of which is included by the picture of each tree in most books) ,,,and then work out the tree type from the shape - easy!

Friends of Tooting Common offer nature walks. There are some people on there who are very knowledgeable about plants and trees. They have a Facebook page if you want to get in touch.
