ideas for a birthday getaway - big country cottages/houses to rent? recommendations?

I'm organising a birthday get together for a friend and we have a large group (20 couples!) - we want to all get together so need somewhere to stay which is really lovely, with facilities like pool and outdoor activities, space to sleep us all, and space for group meals and party.  Hotels just seem to be crazy money, so i'm looking for a  large holiday house rental - south west England.  Any ideas? Thanks - Sam

YES! I recently stayed at North Cadbury Court in Somerset - totally amazing! A proper English stately home but such reasonable price and so welcoming.  Really really stunning place, we felt like lords and ladies, but its really relaxed so we felt completely at home too.  It has about 24 bedrooms I think - and they are all amazing, ours had a four poster bed and beautiful ensuite. Some of us had children/babies with us too and that was totally fine - they provided cots etc if we needed them, high chairs, and there is a whole room full of toys and books etc. too.  We even booked local childminders who work there regularly who looked after them during the evening.  YAY! time off!  we had one big catered meal in the ballroom, and we did pay for catered buffet lunches too as they were really reasonable, but we also had a big shop delivered and just used the huge kitchen ourselves to do breakfasts etc.  We saved a fortune compared with a hotel because we ordered a wine/beer delivery too and didn't have to pay corkage on it thank goodness (everywhere else we had looked had huge charges for this).  There's a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, a small gym, loads of outdoor sports and lovely walks, a lake with pedalos which was hilarious, a games room, table tennis and these zorb ball things you put on and run around on the lawns bumping into each other (the dads loved it).  There's a really cool casino downstairs and also a disco in an old wine cellar - very easy to forget how late it is!  The countryside is just beautiful there - we walked at Cadbury Castle just down the road and went to the pub there too - really nice.  WELL worth it - once we had divided it up the cost of hiring it per couple was way less than staying in a hotel, but we got all those facilities and this incredible stately home to ourselves.  Definitely recommend it - I will be booking again when its time for me to celebrate a significant birthday!  website is http://www.northcadburycourt.com
