Running shoe ?

Postby Valiav » Tue Dec 10, 2019 2:57 pm

I've started working out and running fairly regular but would like to see what kind of shoes you guys recommend for running? I get shin splints really bad and I'm sure being heavy is part of it but I remember when I was in shape I still got them. Is there a brand of shoe that you recommend maybe something for absorbing some of the shock while running? I'm looking to spend the money on a great pair of shoes but need to find someone that has used them before to give me info instead of just taking a chance of picking a decent pair. Thanks

I think that ASICS trainers are pretty good but to be honest it sounds as though you should be be going into a running shop to get some proper advice and try some different brands on. There is one on St Johns Rd just by M & S that has been recommended on this site previously. Can't remember the name.

Agreed with the above - nip into runners need and see what they say.

Second that - go to a shop where your gait will be assessed by expert runners, as there is more to it than just shock absorbing.
If you want to avoid big chains, I have been going for a few years to Run and Become near Victoria. No fancy gait analysis machine, but will they take as much time as needed to watch you running around the block and advise you. They never got it wrong with me (and no, I am in no way related to them, just a happy customer).
In any case, happy running!

Also worth following a training plan that builds speed and distance slowly. It will include lots of slow runs - but it will work in the long term and help avoid injury.
