Save the greens at Clapham South - your help is needed.

Postby juliantenniscoach » Thu Jan 21, 2021 12:04 pm

Hi there,

Many of you may be aware that a redevelopment of the pavilion and bowling greens at the Clapham Common South sport facility (where the Bowling Green, tennis courts & cricket nets are) is long overdue.  You may also be aware that a proposed development to install a 'pitch and putt' course had been agreed by Lambeth Council.

You might not be aware that the planning application was rejected by Wandsworth Council on various grounds and there is now an appeal pending.  There are various reasons why the initial application was rejected and if you are interested in retaining the greens for a more suitable purpose or just interested in the development please look at the website here:-
https://www.savethegreen.uk

There is a lot of information which details the repercussions of the initial plan and what alternatives are proposed.  Let's keep our green spaces alive, vibrant and open to all.

Thanks for looking,

Julian

There is already a pitch & putt at Battersea Park do we really need 2 of them in a mile or so radius?

Perhaps a youth centre might be more appropriate give the kids somewhere to practice their tagging and drill music.

Whatever they decide on it needs to be as diverse and inclusive as possible.

I think they need to look at how the green is currently used and the local demand.
The local demographic Who use it is mainly small children to primary school age.
Were you sarcastic maybe with your suggestion previous poster?

I just want the space to me a green space for all with a purpose. If not a bowling green than something that everyone can enjoy.
A dog free zone for sure like it is now IMO

No sarcasm. This is Battersea not Benidorm and one pitch and putt in the vicinity is more than enough.

It would be nice if Lambeth Council showed some initiative and fresh thinking rather than copying others.

I’m not a fan of a pitch and putt but give me that over a youth centre any day of the week. I think the number of tennis courts should be increased personally.
