Ahem, there are not just 5 reasons to rollerblade and skateboard with us, there are dozens!

You may be surprised to hear as well as Team GBs Sky Brown (12) and Kokona Hiraki (12) from Japan leading the charge for Skateboarding at the Tokyo Olympics, Rune Glifberg (46) will be flying the Danish flag at the very same sporting event. This is just a taster of the inclusivity and popular appeal skateboarding has but it's not just skateboarding. During spring last year inline skates experienced a 300% increase in sales as lockdown hobbies took off like never before.

Here at Zebra Skate, we think this is great news for skateboarding and rollerblading!  We love these sports not just for their fun factor but for the added benefit of being sports children can engage in both on their own and within a group. Plus there is the added benefit of honing skills associated with winter and water sports such as skiing, snowboarding and ice skating.

Why join camp with Zebra Skate?

Safety first; as well as skateboards and inline skates every Skate Camp attendee has access to a full set of safety gear: wrist, knee and elbow pads as well as helmet. For a full day of camp that means parents are avoiding carrying around a bulky bag of 10 (TEN) separate pieces of equipment. All rental equipment is provided free of charge if selected at registration.

Overcoming fear

Once safety kit is in place the fun begins and so does the falling; planned and otherwise. The first thing beginners learn is how to fall correctly and safely. The main aim to remove some of the fear of falling; and of course endear yourself to fellow Skate Campers. Nothing breaks the ice faster than falling over and making a spectacle of yourself in front of your peers.

Level up

As your child’s skill level improves so does their resilience and eagerness to tackle more advanced skating techniques. Slalom, skate tours, jumps and ramps are just some of the more challenging activities offered to faster progressing kids. Zebra skate have a range of medals and prizes to help inspire children and they are not just given out for excelling. Rewards are offered for persistence, tenacity and giving it your all as well.

What sets Zebra Skate apart from the rest?

Inspirational coaches and how they incorporate not just games but hybrid sports into their lessons to keep the kids coming back for more. Skate-tag, traffic lights and Grandma’s footsteps are all firm camp favourites but the inclusion of games such as inline-hockey and roller-football allows camp to offer something unique to kids looking to improve their skills and have a tonne of fun in the process.

Who is Zebra Skate?

Team Zebra have a wide range of teaching and performing abilities. They range from instructors qualified with the UK Inline Skating Association, winners of skateboard competitions and the current UK Freestyle Slalom champion, fourteen year-old Alice Lean, who uses her skills to promote skating to a whole new generation. In addition our junior instructor programme takes eager 10, 11 and 12 year olds and trains them to teach younger kids. Teaching is a life skill that goes well beyond the sphere of Skate Camp; why not develop your coaching craft whilst having bags of fun in the process?

Rollersports course: Try a day before a week!

Postby ZebraSkate » Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:17 am

Go Skating Day was earlier this week and what better day to celebrate those long summer evenings than to book a spot on Summer Camp 2021!

And there is more good news; today we officially opened our half and single day bookings for skate camp. Now your child can try our sports without committing to an entire week of camp

At what age can children learn skating?

I want to be just like my big brother

When is the time right to roll for kids? The answer is when they start walking!

To join camp however, we sometimes recommend 4 years old, often 5 years old.

Several factors help determine if your four year old is ready to join camp.
  1. Do they have an older sibling joining?
Older siblings not only offer a friendly face during camp hours, they can also inspire the younger ones
  2. Physical development / actively engaging in sports
Is your child an energy ball?
  3. Does your child see others trying skating and want to try?
The Olympics are coming and skateboarding is about to get even more visible.
  4. Rollerblading or Skateboarding? Generally speaking we've found younger ones learn rollerblading faster than skateboarding as the equipment is stuck to their feet. This has the added benefit of enabling kids to look up more and engage with their peers.
