Introducing Wurkshop - Creative Hub in Barnes

Postby _Wurkshop » Tue Oct 12, 2021 3:26 pm

Hello Nappy Valley Net,

I'm Charlotte & just wanted to introduce our small start up Wurkshop (run by friends Hayley, Toby & myself). We are a small start up which run arts & crafts classes for children and adults from our studio in Barnes, SW13 0DQ.

Our classes are not glitter and glue but heritage, skilled arts taught by top tradespeople. We offer basket weaving, book binding, graffiti classes, skateboard making, spoon carving, ceramics and much more. Our aim is to teach kids as we would adults, with the proper (often sharp!) tools. As a result, our students really do produce amazing results. Follow us on Instagram to see - @_wurkshop

We run after school clubs every day of the week (and Saturday mornings) ranging from cartooning to ceramics. In the holidays, we have special one-off sessions - often themed to the time of the year. Coming up for October half term, for example, we have advanced potion making, haunted clay houses, carve your own broomstick, or carving stone tombstones.

We also offer drawing and painting - in oils, watercolour, pastel, charcoal and acrylic. One of our specialisms is art history themed sessions such as replicating a Hockney landscape or Frida Kahlo portrait. All classes are open to children aged 7+ because of the hand strength required to use the proper tools such as axes or graffiti spray cans.

There are classes for adults too. There are one-off sessions such as wood whittling, oil painting, life drawing or ceramics. Or you can attend a short course over three evenings such as poetry with famous poet Roger McGough or book binding with the man who binds the Man Booker Prize Winners.

Extra curricular activités are so important for children, and adults too. Confidence is built and mental health is improved through the satisfaction of doing something different. Using your hands and different parts of your brain after a long day at work or school is tactile, satisfying, social and interesting. All Wurkshop’s classes are small, supportive and, perhaps most importantly, fun.

Wurkshop is based in Church Road Mews, just behind Arte Chef cafe in Barnes - close to the Olympic Cinema. Any questions or ideas? We’d love to hear from you - hello at wurkshop . co . uk Bookings are through our website, just Google Wurkshop, Barnes.
