Help - Our neighbour's cat .........

Postby chorister » Tue May 16, 2023 1:30 pm

Our delightful neighbours have an outrageously sweet cat that we wouldn't hurt for the world but ....

... she poohs in our garden, and more seriously comes into the house without us being aware, so sometimes when we go out we lock her in.  Any ideas, other than buy a large dog?  Do electronic cat scarers work and if so which brand?

umm, i'm a bit worried this may be my cat...... (if so please just knock and my door and tell me!)

I think the only thing you can do is talk to the neighbours about it. They can try to keep her inside for a couple of weeks. the cat repellent things have worked for me in a previous house where other cats were pooing in our garden, but they don't always seem to work. A spray bottle with water to mist her with should deter her a little too.

Definitely not your cat!  Thanks for the comment - we are actually planning to talk to the neighbours, and they are delightful so I am sure will be sympathetic but it's hard to see what they can really do.  If only it wasn't such a ridiculously sweet cat!

TBH if you show it any affection it will keep coming around. My cat treats my neighbours' flat as her daytime home because she gets lots of attention there all day long when they work from home.

There are other things to stop her pooing in your garden - coffee grounds in flower beds can help, citrus & vinegar smells too. Maybe a bell on her collar would help you locate her. good luck!

You have my sympathy; 3 new neighbours, 4 new cats and a pile of stinking poo most days. And I can't work out which one is to blame (cat wise). I have just purchased a cat deterrent at considerable expense. A week in and no obvious impact - my child seems to be the only one who can hear the buzzing or care about it. Which? did a survey and the most effective steps seem to be very full borders, chicken wire or sticks planted upright. Menthol on teabags also good but needs re applying every time it rains.

All 4 cats are super cute. It's very difficult having to keep them away never mind actually keeping them away.
