Guy's & St Thomas' private obstetricians?

Postby whirlwind » Mon Jan 31, 2011 10:39 pm

Hi

Has anyone given birth with any of the private obstetricians at Guy's and St Thomas' hospital? Is there anyone you would recommend? I have insurance that will cover their cost, but I am not sure how I go about finding out who is most suitable. Any suggestions/opinions greatly appreciated!

I had my baby privately at st Thomas' in August and I am afraid I really wouldn't recommend my consultant - they missed that I had placenta previa and my baby''s face was cut during the c section as a result. To be fair he seemed to be incredibly busy and overworked. I have heard very good things about Mr Kelleher who delivered my cousin's baby. Please do email me if you would like further information.

I have had all my babies at St Thomas' but via the NHS. Mr Ash was my consultant throughout and he was marvelous in every way and extremely considerate and thorough. He also works in the private Landsdell suite. As for the other consultants, I have no knowledge of them.

Re the comment above, how terrible for you. I hope they have done what they can to in some way make amends.

A very close friend used Mr Kelleher for both her children. He works out of the Portland and St Thomas's but she chose Thomas's as the NHS are there for back up support. She recommended him to me but sadly we couldn't afford it, that said I had both my kids NHS at St Thomas's and had amazing midwives and amazing experiences!

Hi, I could not speak more highly of Con Kelleher, who was my private obstetrician at St Thomas's. He took such good care of me that I mananged to go full-term with my twins. Also the nurses in the Lansdell Suite were brilliant and the whole experience was wonderful. Yes, expensive but worth every penny! Best of luck x

Thanks everyone - think I'll try and book Mr Kelleher and see how I get on.

Highly recommend Mark Johnson he delivers atThe Portland and antenatal appointments at Chelsea & West. A fantastic birth experience. Had it not been for his skill I would have had an emergency c section.

Hello,

Did you eventually use Dr Kelleher?
How was your experience with him and going private at St Thomas's?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks
