Baby name clash - NCT group - keep or switch?

Postby Firecracker » Mon Oct 22, 2018 8:37 pm

We're expecting a boy and have just been completing our NCT course. We've had our boy's name planned for a while now (its not uncommon, a traditional name), however the first couple to give birth have just announced the same name!

What is the etiquette here? I feel the "right" action would be to change our name choice because we may become good friends with the group/this couple, however we've since gone back to the drawing board and simply cannot find another name that we like as much.

Hope to get some feedback on whether to ditch our idea and try harder to find a new name, or sod it and stick with the one we love, but risk peeing off this couple/looking like a copy cat in the NCT group...x

I wouldn't bother changing. You can just say this has always been your name. If I was the other couple (and I am not I appreciate) I wouldn't care.

NCT is expensive in Clapham

You can do the same stuff on youtube in half the time for free

And they have the cheek to say "we rely on word of mouth" as soon as you arrive ... hoping you enlist your friends

Keep the name.
In our group, there were two moms with the same name, we got used to it.
Then when babies were named, none in the group had the same name but there was one name that a prenatal and different post natal nct mom chose, and then the nursery rhyme class mom. At least four in the nursery had this name. I could see that name was special for each parent for different reasons and that's what matters.
So keep the name, it is special for you.

Keep the name

We had the same in our NCT group  - and it was an unusual name

Keep the name. Fast forward 5 years and you probably won’t even be in touch with this family (children friendships tend to revolve around their school friends).

I wouldn’t be the least offended if you picked the same name - surely it’s a compliment. Especially if it’s a traditional name. Go for it.
