Heaver estate

Postby TXmum » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:57 pm

Our house search continues...

Ay advice on the Heaver Estate area?

Safety/crime?
Family neighbourhood?
Nurseries?/schools?
Playgrounds?
Transport?

I know nothing about the area but it's popped up a few times and a lovely glossy mag has come through my door a few times so I thought I would check!

Thanks!

a short summary:

-Safety /crime- no worse or better than the rest of London/ wandsworth area
-Family neighbourhood: loads and loads and loads of families
-Loads of nurseries. Ravenstone school is very good I understand. If you are catholic st anslems is outstanding. Privately-Broomwood garrads road very close as is Clapham and streatham high. Also Hornsby house in Balham and Finton house on trinity road
- 2 lovely playgrounds on tooting common, a one o'clock club and the lido.
-10 mins walk from tooting Bec tube and Balham tube/train (Victoria in approx 10 mins). Don't know about buses

All in all a really brilliant area with really lovely houses. good luck!

We've lived in the heaver estate for nearly six years now and love it. The properties are beautiful and much wider than your typical Victoria terraces and full of character. It's actually a more varied demographic than you'd think too in terms of residents which is important to me too

We are a stones throw from tooting common which is much better looked after these days and great for kids. And being between Balham and tooting bec gives you the best of both worlds.

Ritherdon road has Added a great community and retail dimension to the heaver too.

Schools is a tricky one as it depends on where in the heaver you are. We are a bit too far fr ravenstone based on current distances to get in - holding out hope for the new Balham free school. Otherwise there are all the usual Balham independent schools as the othe poster mentioned.

There's an eveline day nursery in the heaver itself on ritherdon road and another branch a bit further away.

All in all I definitely recommend it although houses are not cheap... If you want any more specific info feel free to pm me

The Heaver Estate is lovely and the houses are very spacious - close to the common with a great playground, pond and coffee shop. Its in between Tooting Bec and Balham depending on which road you go for. In addition to all the other schools mentioned, Bertrum house is conveniently placed too.
I had a look round a few weeks ago and was extremelly impressed by the children, staff and quality of work they were producing. It's only up to 7 years though but apparently all the children have got into their first choice for the next school.
Good luck with the search.

Hi everyone,
I am resurrecting this thread as we are considering a move to the Heaver Estate. It looks brilliant in so many respects (not least space) but our concern is about travel to secondary schools.  Our children are approaching that age and we want to make sure that the commute isn’t a complete nightmare for them/us, and of course, safe. I would appreciate any views on whether commuting to places like Dulwich/Wimbledon is practical from the Heaver Estate.
Thanks so much for your advice.
