Swedish au-pair checks

Postby Tigger » Thu Jul 23, 2015 6:09 pm

We are about to offer a job to a Swedish au-pair but I would like to make some checks before she comes over. Does anyone know what checks (CRB, Police???) can be made in Sweden?

Many thanks in advance

A police record extract can be requested:
https://polisen.se/en/Languages/Service ... -Extracts/

Only the individual concerned can apply and their Swedish National Registration Number is required.

It's worth noting that in Sweden older offences are deleted from criminal records after 3, 5, or 10 years, if no more recent convictions have been added:
- Custodial sentences 10 years from date of release,
- Enforced psychiatric treatment 10 years from date of release,
- Youth detention 10 years from date of release,
- Suspended sentences 10 years from date of decision,
- Discontinued charges (adults) 10 years from date of decision,
- Fines 5 years from date of decision,
- Discontinued charges (minors) 3 years from date of decision.

Such deletions are probably less of a concern in the case of an au pair because she would be too young for the relevant time period to have expired.

Hi,
Its really easy to get a Swedish police check, but it works differently than in the UK. In Sweden you can only apply for your own police check, so your au pair will have to apply for it herself. Its not much of an application, she will simply fill out her personal details and the documents will be sent to her home adress within 2 weeks. There is no way for another person (employer etc) to apply for someone elses check.

Here is the link: (its in Swedish)

https://polisen.se/Service/Belastningsr ... nketterna/

This is common practise in Sweden and its free to she should not have a problem obtaining it.
