Dulwich Film Festival 17-21 June - free entry

Postby charlotte_admin » Fri Jun 14, 2019 1:08 pm

The free Dulwich Film Festival starts next week – a celebration of the conspicuous and varied connections of Dulwich College alumni with the art of cinema in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Every film has an Old Alleynian connection. Our programme runs from Monday 17 June to Friday 21 June and opens with a lecture Dulwich Goes to the Cinema, given by the preeminent film historian David Thomson (also an alumnus). Immediately following the lecture A Matter of Life and Death (1946) will be screened. Directed by Michael Powell (who was at Dulwich College 1918-21) and Emeric Pressberger, this film features prominently in almost every listing of the greatest films ever made.

Dr Joe Spence, Master of Dulwich College commented: “We hope the Dulwich Film Festival plays its part in inspiring the next David Thomson, or Chiwetel Ejiofor, or Michael Powell.”

The full programme of films can be found here: https://www.dulwich.org.uk/400th/the-du ... /programme

Epics include The African Queen, Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient and 12 Years a Slave. Booking is essential for the late afternoon and evening screenings, which are open to the public. Please go to www.trybooking.co.uk/7139
