Streatham and Clapham High

Postby runningmummy » Sun Feb 23, 2020 8:07 am

Does anyone have any experience of the senior school? I am thinking of sending my daughter here and would welcome any feedback from current parents.

My daughter is in year 9 and i'm very happy with the school. Every school will have different pros, cons, ethos, you have posted too about Bolingbroke i see, it would be hard to compare as the offering is so different from the first, single sex schooling v mixed sex schooling, class size, sports offering etc. To hep you decide i would start with what is the most important to you and more importantly for you daughter for her to prosper. For me it was important the class size as my daughter hugely benefits from this. But for many the number in class is not as crucial. I also wanted the wider curriculum til year 10 in languages.

Thank you. That is really helpful. How many are in a class? Do most girls stay for the 6th form?

it depends on the years and subjects - in her language sets only 12 i think other subjects around 18/20. I really like the vertical house system. They stay in their houses from year 7 - 11, meaning you have the same pastoral care house master/mistress throughout and form teacher. Then a teaching form for most subjects with some changes depending on PE groups/ Art and then when they choose an additional language in year 8 they have language teaching groups. Next year the teaching groups will change again depending on Gcse choices and again numbers will depend on subject.

re sixth form - i think most do - the 6 th form is certainly much larger than it used to be, with more girls staying and others joining.
