Options for late applicant to start private in September

Postby Jessief » Thu Jun 18, 2020 3:53 pm

I’m having second thoughts on the (state) school my son is due to start in September (Y7) and was looking for advice on waiting lists for private options. We are in Tooting/Streatham area - and I know they are notoriously difficult to get in to. Does anyone know of any (for boys or coed - pref coed) that might be open to a late applicant or have shorter waiting lists? SW area or would consider around Surbiton, Thames Ditton, Walton area. I know it’s unlikely but just a huge amount of schools would be great to get any guidance. If the school is particularly good for dyslexia (potentially for another child) would be a bonus but this is a tall order I know! Any advice would be great

I believe there are still Y7 places available at the new NorthWood secondary which opens in September ( Northcote Lodge/ Broomwood)

You looking for primary or secondary?

If primary, you can try Eveline Day (Balham), Oliver House (Clapham South) or the White House (near-miss Clapham South).

Thanks for the replies so far - looking a private secondary for my son and a primary for my daughter. Thanks again 😀

Try NorthWood Senior - it’s new but part of the same group as Broomwood Hall and Northcote Lodge. There’s quite a good discount for the first year too. We have children at the prep schools and are very happy with them and will definitely consider the senior school when it’s our turn to move. There are still places I think.

You could try Fulham Senior school, Eaton Square, Knightsbridge, Cedars in Croydon, The Hall School Wimbledon, Thames Christian college, Wetherby Senior School. Be politely persistent- people drop out at the last minute so do drop schools a email every so often until September.

Hi Jessie,

Hall School Wimbledon is a co-educational, all-through school (4-18) in Wimbledon which thrives on its inclusive and independent nature.

Pastoral care is paramount, with its small class sizes (up to 18), caring staff and a commitment to co-education coming together to draw a circle of care around each child, where every pupil is known, valued and able to develop his or her own talents. It
provides a happy and nurturing environment where children study a broad and exciting curriculum.

If this is something you are looking for please consult our website for more information about the school.

Cheers!

Hi. For Primary, The Roche in Wandsworth has some places. May depend which year but definitely some space. For secondary, I expect there will be some places available as lockdown will have changed some family ‘s circumstances. Just need to send emails to the admissions offices and you might get lucky.

You could look at prep schools rather than secondary as they have kids leaving at 11+ but carry on for a couple of years. You can then try for 13+ entry at private secondary schools.

Dolphin School on Northcote Road for primary. Really worth a look.
