Postby betsyboop » Mon Sep 21, 2020 2:42 pm

Hello
is it possible to have feedback from Parents who have children at KGS please ? from an all-rounders kids' point of view (Sports/Drama/Music) ?
and how do people think it compares with the other coed like Alleyn's, Emanuel or Ibstock ?
many thanks

Hi there
My daughter is in year 8 there and we are genuinely delighted by the school. Their ethos is one of real joy and very evidenced learning. She is a competent all rounder - plays hockey and netball but won't play for England, plays an instrument and sings but shan't be joining a conservatoire any time soon and the school makes sure that these interests and abilities are well supported and celebrated.

The teaching staff seem to foster respectful but very fun relationships with the kids. In 2 years I have only heard her grumble about one teacher. Lock-down really cemented for us, what a great school it is. We have an older daughter at a very academic girls'school. So we go to see the different approaches to teaching. KGS nailed it! The lessons were fun, very interactive with lots of team working in smaller groups and from the snippets I overheard, the teachers knew that engagement was their number 1 aim. Tasks could be responded to via different media as the kids saw fit, meaning they got really creative as they learned. Expectations are high but so is the support to meet them.

The tone of the school is genuinely a reflection of their motto: work well and be happy! If I have one grumble (and this is our problem not the school's), the trip up and down to Ditton Field for sports (we are in Clapham) can be a bit onerous.
Hope this helps!

I have a daughter at KGS. As with the previous poster, very happy with the school. Good mix of pastoral and academics. Lots of co curricular. Smaller than a lot of schools, and I think that shows. Love the fact it’s co ed. Yes, the Saturday morning trips to Thames Ditton for sports are a bit of a pain, (they go in coaches from the school for away matches), but it’s a quick journey straight down the A3 and we do lift shares.

Hi all! Trying to reopen this thread and get some more recent feedback please. We love KGS and were impressed with the ethos and relaxed atmosphere in a context of a strong academic school. We now found ourselves in a very fortunate position where we could go for a closer school (Emanuel, 7 min walk door-to-door) or something logistically easier to get to (Alleyn’s, as school coach is super convenient). We also liked Ibstock although had the impression that it might be less strong at stems? Any feedback from current parents at KGS or who found themselves in a position to choose between Emanuel or Alleyn’s vs KGS would be very much appreciated. We live in off Geraldine Rd, SW18. Thanks so much Rx
