Belleville School - 'Outstanding' in all areas - Ofsted March 2022

Postby Belleville_School » Wed May 04, 2022 12:12 pm

Belleville School and the Q1E Trust are absolutely delighted to announce that Belleville School has been graded Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ in all areas following an inspection in March 2022.

This ‘Outstanding’ grade has been achieved by a team effort of which we are very proud. It is a recognition of our relentless drive for improvement, excellence and equality which is shown by our teaching and support staff, leadership team, Local Governing Body, central Q1E Trust team and Trustees. Most importantly, it is a recognition of the excellent attitudes to learning of all the children. Thank you to the whole Belleville and Q1E community.

Well done Belleville team !

Why not capitalise on this success and develop your SPECIAL NEEDS PROVISION ?
Many children are suffering from Hidden or invisible Disabilities such as Dyslexia, ASD, ADHD, ADD, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, slow processing and other learning difficulties, anxiety, depression and other MH issues, only the most severely touched ever get any help while most will go through years of primary school wrongly thinking they are less able, clumsy, less clever than their peers, up until they hit a massive wall in secondary schools.

Early intervention is key !!! as is identification, best done at school level.

Turn yourself into a hub for these children ? and look after their individual needs.

@Nappeyvalleymum3…Please do not hijack this thread. If you want to focus on mental health and special needs at primary school, create a separate thread and raise your suggestions for a debate.

Belleville School is already one of the biggest primary school in SW London and you want to expand it further???

Also, if you create a “hub” for a wider area, what happens to a local kid who can’t get into their local school because they don’t have special needs?

Belleville cannot be everything to everybody. Like every state school, they have limited resources and they are doing a superb job.

In summary, really unfair to focus on this school who are succeeding in providing a quality and “outstanding” education to their local community.

I could be misreading Nappyvalley3's post but I'm not sure that it mentions expansion?

It only suggests that they capitalise on their success and develop their mental health provision. I read it that they are well placed to help those with special needs especially those needs that aren't always most obvious.

Sorry to jump in and maybe another thread would have been better but I do think that if you are dealing with issues like these than you might need to take your every opportunity.

In answer to your thread the school shouldn’t have received an outstanding status if their SEN provision isn’t up to scratch. I visited this school a number of years ago and it was so uninclusive on every level, not just SEN, that it out me off. Young people have a right to attend a school that can help them and shouldn’t have to struggle due to class sizes or lack of provision.

Belleville’s outstanding status is well deserved and a credit to the hard working and dedicated staff. It’s a great school and to say it is “uninclusive” is extremely unfair. Of course, not every school is right for every child depending on a lot of factors.

I have a child with complex SEN at the school and so have first hand experience of their inclusivity.

I think the suggestion was just for Belleville, having achieved a strong academic position through hard work, to refine and develop the Mental Health and special needs provisions to identify issues as early as possible and provide early intervention.

Quite a few of the less known schools in Wandsworth have set up sensory trail/rooms, mental health/cooling zones or autistic hubs, that's possibly the hint ??? these schools definitely appear more inclusive and rounded. I don't think the post is meant diminishing the extensive work of the teaching team and supporting staff.

But more things can be done : Dyslexia screeners can be used from 6Y onward (but somehow there is belief that it is too young an age,) and things will be delayed until the end of KS2 with formal assessment generally taking place in secondary school, by which point things have gone south and mental health is badly affected.

ASD/ADD and ADHD can also be detected in KS1 by practitioners trained to identify the signs.

Well done Belleville! In all areas - a great achievement. If more state schools followed your lead our community would be the richer. Hoping you will blaze a trail for the state secondaries in the area. Imagine if they were also outstanding in all areas.

Hi there, I’m looking to move my son to Belleville, he is being assessed for SEN. I would love to hear more about your experience. I’d be so grateful!
