JAGS vs Putney High School

Postby SW11 Resident » Sun Jul 31, 2022 11:53 am

Would anyone have any views of each school versus the other?

It would be very useful to hear them...thanks!

Hi. I have a niece who went to JAGS a few years ago and have a daughter at Putney High now. From what I can see, they are both quite similar. Academically very strong, so you need to have a child that can manage in that environment. Having said that, not all girls there are geniuses, but you are in a peer group of some very academically able girls. That may suit some more than others.

They are both very established and confident schools, focus on female empowerment and are quite ‘no nonsense’. Lots of opportunities in a miriad of different areas and high quality teaching. I think Putney might have slightly stronger sport and offers rowing. I think if your daughter is quite creative and arty however I might look at other schools as well. If she’s into science, then these would both be great.

If you are applying, I would choose the one that is easiest to get to for your daughter.

Thanks Vista321, all very good to know and helpful.

Our daughter is due to start at JAGS this September, having turned down an offer from PHS (it was the bus service from Between the Commons that clinched it...I have no idea why PHS does not similarly serve this catchment area).

Me being me, I was started to have last minute worries that we had made the wrong choice, but your words have helped to reassure me...many thanks again, WW.

I know you have already made a decision but I would not have let the bus be your deciding factor as from first hand experience they all end up hating that bus journey do Dulwich !

The train from Clapham Junction to Putney is 6 minutes and so much more reliable than the bus. It’s a really easy commute to PHS and you can also get the 37 bus if not quite ready for the train.

But in terms of school both great so am sure your DD will be happy 😃

Sorry I should have added that they tried a bus a few years back but had very little uptake as most of the girls preferred the train …
