Trying to thank the boys from the Gayville Street Party!

Postby urbanblossom » Tue Nov 22, 2022 3:01 pm

I wanted to share a wonderfully heart-warming moment in the hope that thanks might just reach the boys in question!

At our street party this summer, back in June, my then six-year-old boy made friends, over games of football and water gun fights, with some older boys from a neighbouring street who go to (according to my son) Bolingbroke Academy. They took a real liking to my little boy (good taste, he's fab), let him join in their games for hours, kept telling him he was the "coolest little guy they'd ever met", affectionately decided he should be nicknamed 'Edgar' (no idea why...it is a good name though...), and promised they would bring him sweets on his birthday - a promise my son remembered and mentioned every now and then in subsequent weeks, completely confident this would happen, even as I, it has to be said, did my best to reality-check his conviction...

But, lo and behold, come October 10th, my son's 7th birthday, a bundle of sweets did duly appear on our doorstep, along with a very sweet birthday note to 'Edgar'. This absolutely made my little boy's day - his face was absolute raptures at being remembered by the cool big boys, and I was flabbergasted that they had remembered his birthday throughout all those intervening months and made good on their promise! I would like to thank those boys for being so incredibly kind and thoughtful and bringing such a moment of joy to my little boy (not to mention being fabulous role-models to him as cool guys with hearts of gold), but I have no idea which street they hail from or how to get thanks to them. I thought here might be worth a try. If you recognise your own sons in this story, please get in touch. Failing that, perhaps I'll see them at the next street party and can praise them in person!
