Mentor Education has been helping children pass the 11 Plus for over 40 years, helping more than 90,000 pupils. You are in safe hands because we know schools like Dulwich, Alleyns, JAGS, Emanuel, Trinity, St Dunstan’s, Whitgift, St Paul’s and City of London backwards . We published the best-selling book “How to Pass the 11 Plus” and won the coveted “Tuition Agency of the Year” Award. The Times said of our Dulwich 11 Plus weekend school that it “creates an inspiring and motivating environment where small classes allow children to learn in a fun, dynamic way.” How can our 11 Plus Weekend School help you get your child into their choice of school? Our Weekend Schools help children into the top Independent Secondary schools. It is suitable for schools such as Dulwich, Alleyns, JAGS, Emanuel, Trinity, St Dunstan’s, Whitgift, St Paul’s and City of London. Last year we saw 90% of our children get accepted into their first-choice school and 100% get into their first or second choice. We run classes on Saturday and Sunday mornings out of Oakfield Preparatory School in Dulwich, just on the South Circular, for children in Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. All our schools run for a three-hour period. We cap class sizes at eight but normally create a new class when there are six children in a class, so more than six to a class is very rare. Our Year 4 School starts the slow build towards 11 Plus knowledge. The school introduces the core curriculum of Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Our Year 5 School is the next step: the big push. Children this year need to master the full 11 Plus curriculum (which means the full Year 6 National Curriculum) and work on question practice. The Year 6 school is the final step in your child’s 11 Plus preparation. This course focuses on speed (a mark a minute), knowledge consolidation, exam technique and creating story banks for the creative writing exercises for the first half of term. We also help with scholarship extension questions where appropriate. We then move onto 11 Plus mocks exams, our Interview Mastery Course and Group Interviews so your child will be ready, prepared and confident for all elements of the school entrance process. Is this suitable for children at state primaries? Our weekend schools are particularly suitable for children making the transition from state primaries to independent schools. Independent School exams require you to know the Year 6 curriculum by the first term of Year 6. The brightest child at a state school cannot do well in what they have not been taught. You also need to do verbal and non-verbal reasoning which is taught in prep schools but not in primary schools. Prep schools teach this because with teaching and practice you can dramatically improve your scores. Our weekend school’s curriculum was created by the former Academic Head of Finton House school who had 27 years’ experience of getting children through their 11 Plus. How to bookOur courses cost £1500 per term based on a ten week term. Full dates and the booking form can be found here.
