Cranleigh School - NOT stopping bursaries and outreach

Postby CyclingLondon » Wed Oct 02, 2024 11:41 am

Hi All
This is a slightly strange post but I wanted to make everyone aware of a post that I took at face value and I want to stop others being duped too.

There was a viral post on X which claimed that Cranleigh School were stopping all bursaries and outreach as a result of the VAT on the school fees. To be clear I didn't share it anywhere but I did believe it.

It was on X and then it sparked a debate at home as to whether this was sensible or not. Arguments over the toast and coffee!

Anyhow, I then went back to X today and searched for the post to see if anything had been added to it and it has been fully debunked by Cranleigh.

I wanted to share as I believed it was true and I'd hate for others too - the details from Cranleigh are below.

I am sure they will change this like many schools are. They are businesses now - not charities as the Labour people have decided in their ‘wisdom’.

Schools I know are changing the way they do Bursaries, massively reducing them and they will take it to fundraising provision only. So like a PTA fundraiser, it will be another fund raising section.

Parents should obviously NOT have to pay for others to attend private school when schools are not going to be charities anymore (parents should now actually get a kick back from the State not having to pay the £7000 cost of educating their pupil)

Outreach programmes at many schools will be massively scaled back. That the plan, schools generally just won’t say it.

The next area schools are looking at are the high pension contributions. At the moment teachers in the Teachers Pension scheme get 28% ! That is next on the radar to be reduced to a much more normal amount. So teachers who voted Labour have something to think about now as well.

Why should private school give bursaries or work with the community now it’s not a charity and doesn’t have to. It’s now a business and has to spend its money in a wise way, and keep fees low or parents will leave,

The Labour envy policy is creating this, the schools are going to seen be the preserve of the rich, well the very rich. I actually quite like this idea the more I think about it.
