Politicians are by creed unprincipled I have adduced: ie they flow with the wind wavering / blowing in their favour.
The "education" football is a convenient one to kick-about for them (but i really detest the "migrant boat people" football - CYNICISM to the hilt when statistically significant migration afoot globally)
Now Marsha De Cordova, I've met a few time as I was CLP community representative for Balham Corbyn-era: she SHOULD be wavering on the side of the constituency of "NappyValley" voters on THIS ISSUE - Duh! I am sure she has changed her tune or will be. Since taxing-private-schools is not a SINGULAR issue in isolation, where budgets are strained all round, not just personal households but Government, especially local council coffers nearly bare; there has to be give. Labour have little choice but to tax target wealthier class of aspirant parents - i reckon.
If private-school fees is an issue for would-be "Sloane Sq." residents of Battersea constituency next to Chelsea and Westminster, they'd have downgrade schooling or blessed State-schools.
Private schools popping up like cherries around Clapham Common, latest is some London Parks Schools - have in my humble opinion little "public-school-educated" prestige or enhanced educational value associated with them like Ampleforth School in Yorkshire, or the closer Dulwich College. IT IS A COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE - geddit!
Far be it for me to suggest between "public" / private schools and State schools, needless to suggest a pithy sentence that influenced me - approximately: "..though I pay the schoolmasters to teach, the life education seems to come from his peers". I don't remember who said it Maupassant, Hesse etc! MY PENNY's worth.
