I also think if you know of people who are renting to get a place you should tell the council. We told them of people we know who have done this and are waiting it see if they lose their place. The council claims if you obtain a place fraudulently that it will be removed.
Are you saying that those people have only rented temporarily and have now returned to their permanent home? Are these the people you are telling on? How long did they rent for before going back to their permanent home? How is it that you learn about this information: are you waiting to see when these people move (either back to their permanent home or simply to a new property outside of catchment) or these people simply tell what their plans were or going to be?

I know of someone who did exactly this for ravenstone - they didn't even stay in the rented Accomadation until the results were out - just waited for the application date !

Could that actually mean that data supplied for entries is wrong? not updated with new addresses as family moves out?

The people we know rented for 6 months, the property they own was left empty, they lived there for 6 months then moved home. They were very open about what they were doing.

I own a house BTC and have decided to send children private. I may or may not have got into HW or BV but I live very very close. On the plus side my house price has gone through the roof in just under two years. So I would say to those who now have to send their children private as just out of catchment then it is very very likely that your house price has soared. Perhaps this increase will be some small help towards fees. It certain,y has been for me. Feel very lucky to have bought in London and not be in negative equity like the rest of the country.

Not so great for people who bought a house last year for extortionate price...

Price is rising pretty much everywhere in London, so even If I have to sell my house and buy somewhere outside the commons, paying just in agency fees/stamp duty = 75K and ,lets say, buying similar house in Clapham north side - will give around 50-100K profit, hardly enough to pay for private education if you have 2-3 kids...

wake up and smell the coffee..the fact that your child will have a FREE education is a privilege.. period and if you can't afford the private fees then move somewhere else…(but not earlsfield).
Whoa. Lay off the hysterical harpie pills.

Education isn't free and yours failed you if you believe otherwise

You are just as wrong as the other crazy

Its not a right per se, its no more or less than a publicly funded social service.

Free education is a public good, a desirable, prioritised public service.

You are right Excitera but since you dont pay £100k in one go per child, you might find that you have the opportunity to build up a capital over the years and if your children are say 2 school years apart. I mean having a starting point of 50-100 to put aside for private fees, thats not bad!

In another post someone was mentioning sacrificing for paying the fees which sounded very much like "hand to mouth"

So count yourself lucky!

Not so lucky considering the move has to be to a less desirable for me location.

Scottov - please do your research on basic human rights and on simple microeconomics definition of a public good...

Exictera - respectfully you are coming across in a fairly confrontational and dogmatic way. I wish you luck with your campaign but I feel you will need to moderate your tone if you wish to get anywhere with the governing bodies of these schools who have heard it all before and who have to look at the overall common good of the school not just the needs of a small small number who every year do not get in although they would reasonably expect to - and you are not alone, plenty of other schools have this problem, Campaign for a new primary BTC - too many kids, not enough school places in a very small area of high high privilege.

The area is so so expensive now - I can't really comprehend it when I look at the propoerty websites!

No, area is absolutely the same...Higher & faster rising prices are really unjustified...
Northcote road is no different to Lavender Hilll, same rents, same businesses.
Crime rates are also the same, proximity to council estates is the same again etc...
Funny enough even houses outside the catchment area are still rising in price faster than outside the commons... yep, there is absolutely no different, everyone just being a bit mad..
