Think of Lefty Lambeth as you would the Labour party: secretive, disorganised dishonest, and the antithesis to *upfront*. In order words you haven't got a hope in hell of finding out the information you require anytime soon.

(Too political?)

I heard that the HC Balham distance shrunk as there were around 40 siblings this year

Lambeth council have told me that they are waiting until they have the acceptances/declines of the offers before releasing distances and waiting list positions. They said probably in a couple of weeks but it might be 6 weeks! So frustrating that they couldn't give me any idea of how far out of catchment we were so I have no clue if there is a chance of a place or not.

What I meant was Ravenstone requires "improvement ofsted" says, AND is literally miles, from my house BTC. So I would have to drive my 4 year old there every day through the rush hour traffic rather than walk 300m I guess to Belleville or Honeywell. Seems to be madness.

Obviously if Ravenstone is near where you live and the "requires improvement" rating it got doesn't bother you then good for you!

actuallyadad - if you are only 2 streets from where everyone wants to go then at most you are 1.5 miles from R - a 30 min walk
But you are going private anyway...

A 30 min walk and 1.5 miles is WAY too far! Don't forget that's each way!

You seem to forget we are talking about a 4 year old! Good luck getting a 4 year old to walk 3 miles a day. And it will be pretty awful in winter. Obviously we have to drive or it will take to long.

AND don't forget- it's to a school which is objectively not as good!

It's insane when we are 5 mins walk from two better schools.

I would be fascinated to know how many Belleville and Honeywill kids get driven to school from Earlsfield or Balham owing to their parents' successful manipulation of the sibling policy, renting a flat etc...

Anecdotally I see very many children being driven to school at BV and I know many also arrive by train.

For those offered sibling places in 2014

HW 13 out of 54 lived over 800m away
BV 16 out of 66 lived over 800m away

As stated earlier HW & BV are not affected by the admissions rules changing

so almost a quarter of places in each school go to kids who live over 800m away, while kids living 300m away can't get in.

Yes and the council used these schools as the reason for changing the admissions criteria for 24 other schools

According to their 2014 figures the change would "free up" 29 sibling places in these 24 community schools

@actuallyadad

No its not nearly a quarter of places

Honeywell 90 places so 13 over 800m = 14%
Belleville 120 places so 16 over 800m = 13%

Also if you live 300m from Belleville as you stated, its almost certain you will get in this year.

I am afraid your figures are wrong as you are assuming that all of the non sibling entries are living within the catchment and within 800m. Sadly they don't.

Someone said HW and BV have their own criteria, so the new Wandsworth sibling policy would not apply to them... So what are HW and BV criteria? Is it just sibling whatever the distance, then distance? Thanks
