Dear PracG,

We hope you are well.

I don’t know any near Clapham South tube but I would advocate

1. St Anselm’s.
2. Belleville
3. Honeywell.

The latter two are located within walking distance of Clapham South. However, if ultimately the parents' desire is for your child to be stretched academically and therefore gain entry into a top academic grammar schools or indeed independent schools at 11+, tutoring is advisable and necessary, even with the brightest students, due to increased competition for London day schools over the past five years.

As a tutoring agency, we are always approached by the most able students’ parents at these three schools, as state schools do not prepare for 11+ entry.

We hope this helps. Please feel free to contact us.

I would agree, but I also don't know any child from a private school that hasn't had some sort of tutoring for the 11+ even if they are incredibly bright. It's all about passing the exam and answering the questions in the right way and of course for confidence when taking the exam so for any parent wishing for their child to go into private secondary education from any school this is surely a consideration?

The council has a booklet which you can download with the admissions criteria
In general most go on distance apart from the church ones where a priest reference matters

Bonneville and Alderbrook are the local schools - I know people at both who are happy

Alderbrook Primary on Oldridge Road is a short walk down Balham Hill.
