Thinking about getting new windows.. old windows are timber sashes. Should i replace like for like or consider PVC or maybe metal?

If you live in an old house PVC is criminal and hideous. We just replaced ugly tacky PVC with proper windows from Aryten ( spelling ) - it’s expensive but worth it especially when you come to sell . No one with an ounce of taste wants PVC

Agree with gymgoer - we were having other work done to our house a few years ago and our builder was very persuasive indeed with the argument that we should replace our original single-glazed but perfectly functional Victorian sash windows with new ones - it was a real struggle to come up with the extra money for them, as we had not budgeted for any window replacement originally, but boy was it worth every penny!  They look even better than the originals and are really well-insulated and open and close beautifully smoothly.  Please, please don't get PVC for all the reasons given by gymgoer - mainly aesthetic and financial value!  Wooden sash windows will cost a lot more but SOOOOO worthwhile!

Thank you both! The property is period so maybe timber would be more appropriate. Will look Ayrten up.
Thanks again x
