Capital Carpets, Northcote Road

Postby sw11_ » Tue Jun 21, 2011 9:30 am

Was thinking of using them to carpet my house but each time i go in there the guy is so unhelpful and sarcastic and acts like he is doing me a favour. It is probably just the guy's personality but he really winds me up. Does anyone have anything good to say about them to help persuade me to use them? Seems good to use a local firm if i can. Thanks.

It would really rile me to use someone with that attitude! If you want to go local, then you definitely can but maybe shop around a bit as there are a fair few carpet places around. I think there's a place on battersea rise and there are a couple on St John's Hill. See if they treat you a bit better - you don't want to part with hard-earned cash when someone doesn't actually seem to deserve it!

We used Admiral Carpets on St Johns Hill early last year and found them to be helpful. They also turned up to lay the carpet on time and did a good job. They seemed to be fairly competitive on price as I rung around some other shops to check prices.

used them v recently, and also found the shop a bit of a pain, plus having used John Lewis in the past who give you a proper breakdown of each room in terms of size, cost of underlay, and carpeting in each room, Capitol just gave us one big number and very little by the way of breakdown. So after endless phone calls etc...I got there in the end, and to be honest they fitted it all very well and very quickly and couldn't have been more helpful.
So overall good.....

I had a similar experience to you with Capital, so ended up using Floors For Thought on Battersea Rise, who were really helpful, friendly, quick & competitive. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Isn't it funny how different experiences can be .... I had the most AWFUL experience with Floors for thoughts on Battersea Rise. It was a while ago and at the time it was run by 2 brothers - one of the probably the rudest person I have even come across. They fitted carpets really badly (with bubbles in the middle of the room) and the carpets had a stain. I went back to him the same day, and was screamed at and told that I must have spilt something on the carpet (even his fitter admitted that it was already stained). Was then told that I was just a small job for them so they didn't really care. Maybe I got him on a bad day ... ?? Anyway I clearly I took my small jobs elsewhere !! I use someone in Fulham - brilliant service and great prices. They have just redone my whole staircase and sitting room. I will dig out the number if you are interested !

Yes I had the same experience re Capital Carpets. THey do a good job of fitting but their manner in the shop towards customers is somewhat lacking and their desire to actually come and measure is less than passionate!

Someone on here recommended Bowloom Carpets on Queenstown Rd, who were brilliant in the shop, offering advice, range of options and with immaculate fitting and excellent service all round.

I've heard from several friends that Marlows carpets on East Hill are great, but personally I can't get away from Peter Jones, not exactly local but such a safe pair of hands

I would definitely recommend Bowloom on Queenstown Road. They actually cost us less for the same item than at Capital Carpets (and Capital Carpets couldn't do the sort of fitting we wanted). We also had carpets fitted by Capital Carpets and they were good just not as good as Bowloom.

As Happyhippo has already mentioned - Admiral Carpets on St John's Hill are good. Used them plenty of times. Competitive and helpful. Call 020 7585 1155 and ask for Steve.

Have just dug up this topic as a way of finding an alternative shop to Capitol Carpets to use.

I popped in for a very simple request (merely a carpet trim with a bit of a ramp to it) on the advice of a very helpful chap in SDS another local shop who have always been incredibly helpful (take note Capitol Carpets), and boy am I sorry ...... the guy at CC is quite simply laughably rude, I persevered with my request for a while, then gave up and walked out in disgust. As I recounted my experience to my incredulous (and chuckling) husband I remembered reading on here about the attitude in there, but I am stunned to have actually witnessed him in action - WOW !!!

Such a shame, as it seemed as though they actually did have what we needed, and I went with the intention of purchasing / ordering asap, but I simply couldn't stand his attitude any longer, let alone bear to purchase anything from him. So we'll go elsewhere, to one of the nicer places mentioned on here ..... hopefully where the staff realise that the locals are the very people that keep their businesses in business, and that good word of mouth in NV is priceless. It doesn't cost a penny to simply be nice.

Learn your lesson Capitol Carpets, before even more people turn away.

Just wanted to echo a previous post. I used Marlows Carpets on East Hill and was really thrilled with them. Great range of carpets to choose from and the fitters were terrifc - they had apparantly literally worked alongside each other for 15 years so service was, if you pardon the pun , totally seamless. Its nice to be able to "go local" too

Apparently they are closing down and becoming...yet another estate agents.

Perhaps any motivation they may have had to be helpful has gone!

On that note, anyone know what is going in place of the Italian deli? Just being nosey!!
