Vegy Box was launched on 26 March 2020 after the sudden and unprecedented COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak caused all non-essential shops in the UK to Close. We started developing the concept on 16 March 2020 when the Retail shops had to temporarily close without notice. In two weeks the business was launched and operational. The aim was to provide a service mainly to the elderly and less able, who are self-isolating around the UK and wished to have much-needed supplies delivered to their door without the risk of any contamination.
It was clear from the start of the pandemic that existing mainstream home delivery companies would not be able to cope with the demand as in March 2020 only 7% of the country’s food shopping home delivered. We have 4 Luton Box vans and competent drivers who were willing to stay out and work to ensure they could continue to work, but also help the national effort to keep people's life as normal as possible in the extraordinary uncertain times. Vegy Box - accepts donations who wish to support the elderly people. We will deliver essential weekly shopping to signed up elderly people for FREE. All excess Fresh Produce if it is not delivered the day it is collected to local food banks for free to be distributed to the Vulnerable and those needing help at this time. We also offer to do free home deliveries of Government Free food parcels to any areas we regularly work in up to a maximum capacity of 20% of our paid for loads. Some of our Fresh Produce up from Lancashire, Surrey, Yorkshire and Suffolk and keeping it cold to deliver the same day has been a challenge – but we like to think we are managing really well.
