Interior designer cost?

Postby JoClaphamMum » Thu Jun 25, 2020 7:24 am

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can offer some light.

We have a huge renovation project in our hands. We have contacted a few interior designers to try and get some help with sourcing & project management. We have young children and both work full time so time is short.

We have been quoted around £710+VAT per month for monitoring/project management. This provides 2 site visits per month and availability to help the builders with any queries.

For sourcing we have been quoted a margin of 25%.

Just wondering if these are standard prices or expensive? I know this will change from designer to designer but we haven't done this before so hard to know. Had a look online and although you can find prices for design packages prices for sourcing/project monitoring are not readily available.

Thanks

Jo
Those figures sound within the ball park for residential work...
Several things to know...
Procurement at around 20-40% is common but find out if acting as ‘agent’ or ‘principle’, i.e. are they acting as a retailer (so fix replace qualities issues, or just as agent - sourcing to a concept...but you deal with replacements deliveries etc.

Design and Management fees ideally would bear relation to your overall budget....
Fixed Fee, Time Based or Percentage are the three models used generally, you can also use a mix of all three...with caps.
Check through the ‘scope of services’ are they comparable, do these match what you actually need?
Also be aware of your obligations under CDM - Construction Design Management.
Happy to help if you need further....
Alex

Morning

Further to your post and the question of cost.  Yes, those costs look reasonable, but as stated, there are several ways to costs projects; fixed fees, hourly rates or a  mixture of the two. In terms of procurement, it is  also worth considering that discounts are often secured by designers and quite often these can be shared with the client, so there are some savings to be made there which can offset some of the fees.  We work on an (reasonable)  hourly rate to estimate our fees based on a detailed and considered scope and like to give our clients a clear and upfront understanding of the fees involved.  Not sure if you've found an interior designer yet, but if you're still looking  we'd be very happy to meet to discuss fees and how we work and what we can offer.  We're based in Clapham and regularly work in the area.  Do take a look at our website and let us know if you'd like to chat further.  Regards Debbie and Nicoline, Studio Ogee
